  1. “The Society or Fraternity of Freemasons is more in the nature of a system of Philosophy or of moral and social virtues taught by symbols, allegories, and lectures based upon fundamental truths, the observance of which tends to promote stability of character, conservatism, morality and good citizenship.” – H. W. Coil
The most common explanation of Freemasonry is that it is a “peculiar system of morality, veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols.” But is also happens to be the largest and most established fraternity in the world. With over 5 million members worldwide and growing, our great fraternity strives towards perfection every hour of the day.

Here in Lebanon, our community is also growing with more and more good men joining our fraternity. Regular Freemasonry in Lebanon has had a long history, starting in the early 1860s. Moreover, the two Hirams, which are central to Freemasonry, both came from Tyre (صور) in Lebanon.
Origins:

The question of when, how, why and where Freemasonry originated is still a subject of intense debate to this day. The general consensus among masonic scholars is that it originated from the organization of the stonemasons who built the great buildings of the middle ages. Some even believe Freemasons go back to a much earlier age, to the time when the pyramids of Egypt were being built and perhaps even before.

However, organized Freemasonry
began with the founding of the Grand Lodge of England in 1717, the first Grand Lodge ever with Ireland and Scotland following soon after in 1725 and 1736 respectively. All regular Grand Lodges today trace themselves back to one or more of the Grand Lodges in the British Isles.

Our Tenets:

The great fraternity of the Freemasons is built and founded on three key tenets. We call them tenets because no man can deny their essential value and the fact that they are universally good, and are:
∴ BROTHERLY LOVE ∴
∴ RELIEF ∴
∴ TRUTH ∴

Masonic factS from Lebanon:
Tomb of Hiram

Picture
The “Tomb of King Hiram” is located in Lebanon in the town of Hanawai (حانويه), just 6 KM outside Tyre (صور‎ / Soor).  It is uncertain if the tomb belonged to the king, as it is dated back to the Persian period, which is around 5 centuries before Hiram’s time.
Our Tools:

Freemasons use the working tools of the ancient stonemasons to symbolize moral lessons and truths. For example, Masons are reminded at lodge to “meet upon the level of equality, act by the plumb of uprightness, and part upon the square of virtue.”
